Blending SAF into the hydroprocessed aviation kerosene stream

At the Kralupy nad Vltavou refinery, we carried out work for ORLEN Projekt Česká Republika s.r.o. involving electrical and I&C components for a project to build a new rail unloading and storage facility for SAF and to blend this component into the hydrogenated jet fuel stream. (SAF – Sustainable Aviation Fuel).

The project was divided into 3 main parts:

• SAF rail unloading
• SAF storage
• SAF dosing into the hydrogenated jet fuel stream

Scope of our activities:

• installation of cabling and cable routes
• installation, wiring, and commissioning of I&C equipment
• building electrical installations, including grounding and lightning protection systems
• upgrading existing switchboards
• assembly of new switchboards
• provision of initial inspections and TiČR certification
• individual testing and participation in commissioning
• handling all permits, including compliance with refinery work standards

Project benefits:

Dosing SAF into the fossil-based hydroprocessed aviation kerosene stream provides an immediate reduction in lifecycle CO₂ emissions of up to 80% and enables refineries to meet EU legislative quotas without the need for aircraft modifications.
